History of the Museum

The International Museum of the Horse opened in 1978 in conjunction with the opening of the Kentucky Horse Park. Over the past three and a half decades the IMH’s exhibits have grown from a meager 22,000 square feet to the current 45,000, and its collections are now some of the finest and significant on the subject in the world. It is the largest museum in the world to explore the fascinating relationship between horses and humans.
