Count Bernard de Clavière (b. 1934) was born in Lyons, France. As a child, he learned to drive a horse and carriage into the nearby town, later developing skills in riding, hunting and fencing. Count de Clavière studied under Count Xavier de Poret, and cites as influences such masters as Diego Velázquez, Nicolas Poussin, Thomas Stubbs, and Rembrandt. Throughout his career, Count de Clavière has painted commissioned works in over 140 countries with owners such as the Queen of England, Prince Charles of Wales, and Ralph Lauren.
