Wood and leather Chinese saddle dating from the Qing dynasty (ca. late 17th century to early 18th century). Red, white and blue fabric seat, cloisonne detailing at front and back. Red paint underneath, believed to have been completely painted red during Chinese Cultural Revolution. the complete saddle was originally purchased from a descendant of a Mongolian noble family who stated that it was presented to their ancestor by the Qing emperor for meritorious military service.
