ARTE EN LA CHARRERIA: THE ARTISANSHIP OF MEXICAN EQUESTRIAN CULTURE
Exhibit Dates: June 19 – September 11, 2009
Collaborators: International Art & Artists
Today, the equestrian sport of La Charrería remains one of Mexico’s most important cultural traditions and is a part of its national identity. Like the American rodeo culture, Charrería extends beyond horses and riders to include costume, music, and food that bring a uniquely Latino influence to this Spanish-inspired sport.
Arte en la Charrería showcased the art of the Charrería culture, highlights the outstanding craftsmanship of the artisans who produced the spectacular sombreros, saddles, bits, spurs, clothing and much more. The exhibition transcended the beauty and utility of the objects and revealed a rich tradition that exalt Mexican civic spirit and honors the artisans as an essential part of the art.
