What the Hay?
Thursday, 01 September 2011This fascinating object is a charcoal fired foot warmer. Made in the 19th century by a company called Clark Burner, it would have been filled with charcoal and placed on the floorboards of a carriage or sleigh to keep the occupants warm in winter. You can learn more about horse drawn vehicles by visiting the IMH’s carriage exhibit or the Big Barn exhibit at the Kentucky Horse Park.
